FAQ

Q: Out with it: What do you charge?

A: Pricing can vary from job to job, due to factors like research required, desired turnaround time, and bulk discounting. So I don’t have a stone-carved price sheet.

But generally my rate is $80/hour for by-the-hour work. I also offer package deals, like $1,000/month for four high-quality blog posts (like these). And I’m happy to quote a flat rate if you have a one-off project in mind.

Q: Okay, fair enough. Do you offer a free initial consultation, of the variety I see advertised on late-night TV?

A: Of course! Anything less would be uncivilized. It’s important that we both explain and understand our goals and expectations before beginning work together. To get started, send me an email and we’ll get discussing.

Q: How and when do I pay you?

A: Again, we have options! They say cash is king, but I’m also happy to accept payment by check, Venmo, PayPal, and Google Wallet.

Depending on how quickly you need the work done and whether we’ll be endeavoring to start a short- or long-term relationship, paying upfront, in 50/50 installments, or after each iteration of the project might make the most sense.

Q: Will we use a contract?

A: Oh yes. My standard contract is brief and friendly, but signing off on our mutual understanding of the project’s parameters creates a warm sense of security like nothing else.

Q: What will the turnaround time be?

A: That depends entirely on your needs, the size of the job, and my existing workload. But I’m renowned for my good time management skills and unfailing delivery to clients.

We’ll talk about what you need and by when, and once we agree on a deadline, I will have it ready for you, by then or earlier. Boom.

Q: I have this writing [or editing] job in mind, but I’m not sure it’s something you do…

A: I’m not, either! Please shoot me an email and tell me about it. I’m pretty flexible.

Q: I’m working on a fabulous project for which I need not only editorial help, but images, music, graphic design, translation, video, social media strategy, and maybe other stuff. Can you help?

A: Yes! Creatives tend to know other creatives. I can certainly recommend this great photographer, music producerdesigner, and video producer, for starters. In addition to loving their work, I’ve collaborated on projects with each of these folks, with excellent results.

If you’re interested in hiring a team to deliver what you need—like beautiful banner art with catchy copy, or a fundraising video with sweet sound design and fun captioning—do drop me a line!

Q: Why should I hire you instead of the other guy?

A: Because I’m good at what I do. Because I won’t let you down. Because I’m versatile, my prices are reasonable, my turnaround time is swift, and I’m fun to work with. See?
